Formerly known as Dennee’s Distinctive Furnishings, the newly relocated Maxine’s by Dennee’s is the new evolution of design for the Dennee family. Dave, Maggie and daughters Michelle, Mia and Monique were all born into the Dennee family and grew up in the family business. They bring many years of art and design education and practical field experience to the table and work as designers, buyers, showroom experts and various other roles as third-generation owners of the business. Their grandfather, Lloyd Dennee, first opened the company in Hawthorne, California in 1945 as a Goodyear tire store. He introduced TV sales to the store around 1950 and became the largest TV dealer in Southern California. Maxine Dennee, Lloyd’s wife, added a small furniture section around 1952. After the sudden death of Lloyd in 1965, newly widowed Maxine and son Dave, decided to phase out television sales and dedicate the business to furniture sales and design. Maxine held the business together during a very difficult time and for that, her family will never forget. It is because of Maxine that Mia, Michelle, and Monique get to pursue their passion in design.
After 70 years in the business, Dave Dennee is retiring. From tires and televisions to fine interior home furnishings to today’s newly branded Maxine’s, the Dennees store has experienced many evolutionary steps since it was founded. Although Dave will be missed, his daughters are excited to carry on with this new chapter in honoring their grandmother, Maxine, while knowing that they have their father there to support them every step of the way.
